Known Trivia

  • The first sequel to an Oliver Stone film.
  • Javier Bardem was the studio’s favorite for the role of the villain. However, he turned the role down to star in Biutiful, and so Josh Brolin was cast. Brolin previously starred in Oliver Stone’s film W..
  • Michael Douglas’ first day of filming was September 18th, 2009, exactly one week before his 65th birthday. His first scene filmed was Gordon Gekko getting out of jail.
  • Naomi Watts and Cate Blanchett reportedly turned down the role of Sylvia Moore.
  • According to Carey Mulligan, rehearsals lasted for three weeks.
  • Title was originally “Money Never Sleeps”. When Oliver Stone signed on to direct, he added “Wall Street 2” to the title. Later the numeral was dropped, since Stone wanted the film to be seen as both a sequel and a stand alone story.
  • John Bedford Lloyd had played a role in Oliver Stone’s Nixon.
  • Blake Lively and Lea Michele were both rumored to play Winnie Gekko.
  • The second time that Shia LaBeouf has played a character named Jacob. The first time was in New York, I Love You.
  • Susan Sarandon’s second collaboration in two years with Michael Douglas and Carey Mulligan. She last starred with Douglas in Solitary Man and Mulligan in The Greatest.

Goofs: Revealing mistakes: In a scene where Gordon Gekko and Jake Moore are riding in a cab, it shows the cab driving for quite a long time before showing the meter, which only reads $2.90. Given that New York cab meters start at $2.50 and would increase to $2.90 after only 1/5 of a mile, it is apparent that the meter was either not really running or shot at a different time in the cab ride than was shown in the movie.

Plot: Now out of prison but still disgraced by his peers, Gordon Gekko works his future son-in-law, an idealistic stock broker, when he sees an opportunity to take down a Wall Street enemy and rebuild his empire. Full summary »  »

Story: As the global economy teeters on the brink of disaster, a young Wall Street trader partners with disgraced former Wall Street corporate raider Gordon Gekko on a two-tiered mission: To alert the financial community to the coming doom, and to find out who was responsible for the death of the young trader's mentor.Written by Anonymous
