Known Trivia

  • The casket used in Christoph’s apartment was a “loaner” model, borrowed from a local funeral home. Several times during production, it had to be returned for a few days, in order for it to be used to display a body during a funeral service.
  • The long black leather coat worn by Christoph during the second part of the film is a genuine World War II Nazi great coat.
  • The clock in Christoph’s apartment, as well as his wristwatch, read “6:41”. The month and year that Auschwitz opened.
  • The speech Christoph gives in the Blood Bar, when he is drunk, is from a speech that Adolf Hitler gave to the German people on the morning he invaded Poland.
  • A staple of the craft services lunch was salad and hoagie sandwiches, dubbed affectionately by the cast and crew as “Sang-whiches”.
  • Contrary to conventional vampire lore, crosses are not a part of the story, and are rarely seen at all in the film.
  • A number of the production crew make cameos, with the notable exception of the director. She has been quoted as saying, “The camera will steal my soul.”
  • In various scenes involving one character “slapping” another, the action invariably ended up being executed realistically, much to the enjoyment of the crew. In the scene in the warehouse between Christoph and Saccharin, the director, who is married to the actor playing Christoph, took a particular delight in calling for repeated takes of the slap. It became so repetitive that one take actually knocked the actor’s fangs loose.
  • The actress who was cast as Mercy became pregnant shortly before principal photography commenced. As the shoot progressed, her condition became increasingly visible. Creative filming angles had to be used, as “Pregnant Puritan Vampire” was not a part of the story line.
  • During a break in filming at the blood bar, a number of cast were off set in a nearby alleyway rehearsing a fight sequence. A concerned citizen mistook it for an actual fight, and local law enforcement arrived in a state of alert. The production manager averted certain disaster when, in costume and immediately advised of the problem, he remember to leave his prop revolver on set prior to meeting with the officers.
