Known Trivia

  • Ghajini was made in Tamil by the same director A.R. Murugadoss. It starred Surya Sivakumar, Asin and Nayantara whereas in Hindi remake, Aamir Khan plays the role of Surya and Asin remains the common factor, Jiah Khan plays the role of Nayantara.
  • The film was widely publicized by Aamir Khan (Sanjay)’s 8-pack abs. All the promotional video of the film had scenes of Aamir’s bare chest. Aamir Khan even released the videos, in which he was shown exercising in gym, and giving body making tips.
  • This is a remake of the Tamil film Ghajini, which was inspired by the Christopher Nolan movie Memento.
  • The first (and till now only) film in India to be given a UA certificate on account of violence and not sexual content.
  • The mobile phone number imprinted on Aamir Khan’s body shown in the movie turned out to be a real phone number used by a woman in Bangalore. After the movie was released she got lots of calls and texts. Even though the distributors of the film wanted to help her, the posters of the movie showing Aamir’s toned body with tattooed number were marketed widely before the movie released. • South Indian actress Asin’s debut movie in Hindi.
  • After watching Ghajini actor Aamir Khan was impressed by the story and the performance of Asin, he initially decided to remake it on Hindi and requested Asin personally to reprise her role in the Hindi version.
  • It was Aamir Khan’s strong decision Asin remained in the movie, the producers were not interested in casting South Indian actresses opposite Aamir. Their choice to play Kalpana was Priyanka Chopra. Later producers agreed to go with Aamir’s choice.
  • Even though it’s the remake of Tamil Film Ghajini, the climax, some characters and the ending were rewritten in the Hindi adaptation.

Story: Medical student, Sunita, is driven by curiosity to study the case of Sanjay Singhania, who is afflicted with short-term memory loss. She runs into him, befriends him, and finds out that he is out to kill a seemingly benevolent citizen, Ghajini Dharmatma. After warning the latter of the impending danger, she subsequently comes across a number of diaries written by Sanjay and attempts to put together a jigsaw puzzle as to how a successful and wealthy businessman became a crazed recluse, who re-lives his past through tattoos on his body, notes and Polaroid photographs on the wall of his Hiranandani Complex flat, and his sole obsession of carrying out his deadly mission – little knowing that Ghajini and his goons are out to erase every bit of evidence he has gathered and thus ensure that he ends up remembering nothing.Written by rAjOo (gunwanti@hotmail.com)
