    Synopsis: LUNCH – Synopsis

There is hope but not for that many of us.

LUNCH is a multi-plot drama about five people who all live on the same block in Oslo.

Christer (27) is on his way to work when a seagull shits on his shirt. Down in the Laundromat in the basement he suddenly remembers that all his rent money is in his shirt pocket. In an attempt to save the money, he takes out the main fuse of the building to stop the washing machine. When the superintendent puts the fuse back in, an old man in an apartment above clumsily changes fuses in his own fuse-cabinet. The man dies immediately. His daughter, Leni (40) has lived completely isolated with her father. Now she is alone for the first time of her life. When fresh first-time mother Heidi (30) is down to get her laundry, she notices that all the machines have stopped. She is in a hurry and has to grab the clothes all wet. Without knowing it, Christer has started the inevitable.

Christer lacks $250 for next months rent. He gets a few days extension to try and get the money. Leni gets evicted after the fathers death and has to manage alone in the world outside the apartment. When Heidis boyfriend Odd (30) finds out that his trousers are not ready for when he is going to work, beats her hard. Convinced its her fault, she decides to become a better girlfriend.

In the background there is Turid (55) who does not see that single life has its price and that her career has come to a halt a long time ago.

The ever so busy Kildahl (55) tries to ignore the fact that his wife despises both him and the wheel chair she is stuck in.

While these characters are minding their small problems, a bigger danger is lurking in the background. The seagulls are leaving their habitat by the sea and are settling in the city. And they are starting to get hungry.

In the course of the week the ambitious and vain Christer discovers that he is without friends and possibilities in life. The pathetic Heidis life turns to the worse when she tries to be even more obedient. When she gets the chance to break out of the relationship, it is obvious that she is more afraid to be alone than for the violent boyfriend. While the lost Leni, who for so long has been protected from the brutal outside world, experiences that the world can be an almost friendly place. We go with her to the beach and as she goes for a swim we start Eurythmics I Saved the World Today, which takes us into the title sequence.
