Known Trivia

  • While principal photography took place during the month of August, the shot of the car going off the cliff in the opening scene wasn’t filmed until November. The near 25 degree weather resulted in a blow torch being brought in to defrost the car windows.
  • Iris McQuillan-Grace was originally cast as Veronica and Ashley Bates as Kerry. During the first week of filming they were forced to switch roles due to scheduling conflicts, even though scenes were already shot with them in their original roles.
  • The car in the opening scene, a 1968 Plymouth Fury, was pushed off of a cliff into a quarry. Somehow, when it landed at the bottom, it survived completely intact. One headlight went out, but the filmmakers could find no other significant damage.
  • The house was the same location used in Blood Descendants (2007) and there is a poster for that movie with the original title Hell’s Beacon hanging in the kitchen.
  • A yellow and red can of shuttlecocks was found by the crew at the house set. They then tried to sneak it into as many shots as possible and it appears consistently throughout the movie in nearly every interior scene.
  • To rock the camper in which Corey finds a body, it was placed on blocks and pushed back and forth. During filming, the camper slipped off of the blocks and fell. Nobody was injured, but the shaking was much tamer after that.
  • In the scene where Veronica pushes Lake over a ledge, actress Ashley Bates accidentally really pushed actor Troy Walcott down the ledge. This shot appears in the movie, but his real fall wasn’t captured.
  • Synthetic Cinema originally hoped to shoot this movie a year earlier using a stop motion creature, but make Werewolf: The Devil’s Hound (2007) instead when the special effects were deemed too challenging.
  • When an actor failed to arrive on set to play the bartender, director Colin Theys reportedly turned to crew member John Randall and asked “do you act?”. He plays the part in the film.
  • The scene in which Bansley pulls the spear from her leg was shot in just over 20 minutes and almost completely improvised. Atcress Iris Mcquillan-Grace found the simulated blood so disgusting that she actually threw up.
